OpenAL error messages on launching games. |

When launching a game and you get an error messages that, for example, says "Open AL.dll not found" or "The procedure entry point alSource3i could not be located in the dynamic link library OpenAL32.dll".
First solution -Make sure that you install OpenAL during the installation of the game, the installer asks you and by default the option is checked for installation. If you want to skip a re-install of the game you can get the OpenAL installer here. If problem still remains see next solution. Second solution -Make sure that your sound card has the latest drivers possible, check the manual that came with the computer or sound card for support information. Uninstall the drivers, restart the computer and install the new drivers. Try to run the game, if problem remains do the next step as well. -Download the latest OpenAL release and install it. If the problem still remains after this, see the third and final solution. Third solution -Uninstall OpenAL using the Add/Remove programs in the control panel. -Go to your harddrive where Windows is installed(probably C:)and locate the "WINDOWS/system32" folder. This could be hidden, change your Windows file settings to display system files and folders. -Delete the files "OpenAL32.dll" and "wrap_oal.dll" if you find any in the above folder. -Go to the folder where you installed the game, open the "redist" folder and delete "OpenAL32.dll" and "wrap_oal.dll" if you find any. -Download the latest OpenAL release and install it, go to the "WINDOWS/system32" and make sure that the two files, "OpenAL32.dll" and "wrap_oal.dll", has been installed properly. Try starting the game again and hope for the best. |
