Penumbra: Overture crashes and I'm sure I have the latest version, latest drivers and/or I have played the game before but now it does not work any more. |

Chances are a file has become corrupted or some settings have changed that should not have changed. Try the following four steps, doing it one at a time and see if it helps.
1. Go to My Documents/Penumbra Overture/Episode1/ and delete the file settings.cfg. Launch the game again and it will recreate the original settings file and use those when starting. 2. Uninstall and reinstall the game. You can safely do this without loosing any saved games. 3. Go to My Documents in your Windows installation, delete the folder called Penumbra Overture. This will delete all saved games! To be more specific in what will be deleted, browse further into the Penumbra Overture folder and only delete specific files, such as settings.cfg. 4. Locate the folder where you installed Penumbra: Overture. By default c:/Program Files/Penumbra/Episode 1/. Navigate to redist/core/cache/ and delete all the files in that folder. You can safely do this without loosing any saved games. These are cache files of models and levels, they make the game load faster but are not needed. As you play through the game they will be re-created. |
